Newsletter Winter 2008
Transition to our new home

December 2007 was a month of the good, the bad, and the heart-warming. The people at Crown Hill Methodist Church were most gracious in helping us prepare the site for occupancy.

The moving schedule went smoothly with just the right number of earnest helpful cheerful volunteers. The snow waited until the last load. We went home after the first day of moving on December 1, satisfied with a job well done. That’s the “good” part.

Monday morning we were looking at three inches of storm water in the entire lower level — including where our lending books were in boxes on the floor! Your president, with Bob and Sara Elefson, spent the day rescuing books and sweeping water out. What a picture it would have made!

During the next 5 days, the new office looked like a Chinese laundry with books hanging out to dry after pressing with dry towels. Many volunteers helped to dry books and some took them home to work on them. They included Jeanette Saltwick, Renee Stern, Paula Jenson, Cheryl Smith, Sue Vadman, and others. Thanks to you, our loss was limited to 150 used books.

Now the heart warming part: We sent to all the US affiliates an SOS by on-line listserv asking if anyone could spare any of the most important 30 books. LCS was swamped with offers and most of the books we need are being replaced, free. What a great way to begin a new year!
