Volunteer
We need volunteers who are willing to be trained as tutors and commit to teaching one or more adult learners for at least six months.
What does it take to be a literacy tutor?

Ability to read, write, and speak English. -
Patience. -
Compassion for others.
If you have these qualities, you can teach someone to read, write, and speak English.
ESL (English as a second language)
Tutor Training is offered over two Saturdays from 9:30 to 2:00 pm
- February 20 and 27
- May 8 and 15
- July 17 and 24
- September 11 and 18
- November 6 and 13
You will learn to teach low level ESL learners to speak, understand, and read English. New volunteers need to attend both days prior to tutoring. Teaching materials cost $40. Cost can be reduced if you borrow some of the books.
ADULT LITERACY (for English speaking adults)
Tutor Training is offered over two Saturdays from 9:30 to 2:00 pm
- April 3 and 10
If you want to teach English-speaking adults, this is the Tutor Training for you! You will learn techniques to help students improve reading, comprehension, and spelling. New volunteers need to attend both days prior to tutoring. Teaching material costs $25.

- Staff the office for one day
- Work with the Board of Directors
- Participate in our annual fund-raiser, friend-raiser
- Design and produce promotional materials
- Manage library of texts and teaching materials
- Assist with the quarterly Newsletter (in Publisher)
